Know the OSHA Guidelines for Fall Protection

In 1970 the Occupational Safety and Health Act was created to prevent workers from being injured or killed while working and OSHA fall protection was born.

OSHA Guidelines were created to highlight the dangers of specific work areas and industries and regulations were put in place that must be followed to maximize safety while minimizing injuries. These guidelines and standards cover a wide range of industries and safety concerns, with Fall Protection being one of the most important areas. Below is a breakdown of the OSHA Fall Protection Guidelines and Standards as well as the fees for violating these requirements.

OSHA Fall Protection Standard 1926 – General Requirements (1926.501)

OSHA requirements outline where fall protection is necessary, which systems are appropriate for given situations, the proper construction and installation of safety systems, and the proper supervision of employees to prevent falls. It is designed to protect employees on walking/working surfaces (horizontal or vertical) with an unprotected side or edge above 6 feet.
