A local Rochester area company found themselves in a predicament, and in need of help with roof fall protection, when their only elevator malfunctioned, leaving employees and visitors with limited stairwell access. Despite efforts to summon repair technicians, the elevator remained out of service due to a lack of roof access stairs. Technicians refused to work in conditions without proper roof fall protection.
The company’s rooftop was not properly equipped with roof access stairs for technicians to reach the elevator doors from the exterior. This oversight left the company with minimal options for restoring elevator functionality. Building Roof Access Stairs on the Job Site
In order to get the elevator fully functional again, roof access stairs had to be designed and installed to match the unique dimensions of the building. Fall Protection Solutions worked in tandem with our Rooftop Support Systems division to coordinate a custom designed modular solution that was both cost effective and a quick to install.
A crane company was contracted to transport the 700 lbs. of material to the roof for construction of the access stairs. Moving the materials from street level to the top of the 6 story building took about an hour. Once materials had been delivered, build out of the platform and stairs took a mere 2 hours to complete.
With an updated access platform, technicians now had a means of reaching the elevator from the exterior on the roof. Our customer was very appreciative to have elevator access restored throughout the building in a short timeline. They also had the assurance that their building now had comprehensive infrastructure for protecting future employees, visitors, and servicemen.
